Critique: Disgusting indeed! The endless hideous mutants make a nice backdrop for the rest of the gruesome sights with which this film is packed. A zany performance by Jim O'Doherty as Little Hal sets the tone for a horror romp. Belyle has a fantasy of frolicking with two naked twins. Some of the campy stuff works (the sheriff's alliterative call to arms) and some doesn't (anything said by Dwayne). The former straight man Dwayne has been reduced to a babbling bore for most of part 3. There are some delightfully scary gruesome special effects in the showdown at the police station. The film finds itself and its pace when the blood starts to flow. All in all, though, romps ought to have been put safely to rest back in the sixties where they belong. It's difficult to recreate that carefree early sixties atmosphere with nineties viewers.
Whoops! In Peach Tree Valley when the bus pulls out of the drug store, one second the U-haul is not there and then it is. Where was the prop man?
Plot Summary: As Dwayne Bradley is refused sex by his girlfriend, Granny Ruth's daughter Susan, Belyle the Basket Case is in the attic having sex with a female Basket Case mutant. The problem downstairs is Dwayne's girlfriend who reveals that she has been pregnant for the last six years and shows him the toothy baby lizard monster that lives in her belly and isn't ready to come out. In his panic Belyle knocks her out a third story window onto a picknick table where an entire army of "unique individuals" are having a picnic. Aunt x orders her charges to find Dwayne as Dwayne is in the attic bashing Belyle with a baseball bat after which he sews the Basket case back on to his side. "It's ok we're together again." Granny Ruth puts Dwayne in isolation in the rubber room where he spends several months before he again becomes lucid if not sane. Belyle has cut off telepathy with Dwayne but Annie assures him that Belyle is happier than ever before, as he and Eve are awaiting their first child. Granny Ruth is planning a bus trip from New York to Uncle Hal in Georgia, the only doctor she can trust with such a difficult delivery. Granny Ruth tells Dwayne in no uncertain terms that he is to leave Belyle alone. She loads her people into the school bus and they're off for Georgia. When the Sheriff visits Dr. Hal Rockwell, he is treated to some of the Rube Goldberg inventions of little Hal, who has six arms. Meanwhile on the bus ride the mutants are entertaining themselves by performing "Personality" with their own brass section and Granny Ruth singing lead. Finally they sop in Peach Tree Valley at a drug store where Granny stocks up on cosmetics. Dwayne pokes his head out of the bus and meets the Sheriff's daughter Opel and asks for her help. She thinks he's weird. As they unload Eve, her water breaks through her stomach and floods the bus. Little Hal it turns out is a genius scheduled to perform the delivery assisted by Uncle Hal. It also turns out that little Hal is the son of Granny Ruth. Granny decides to free Dwayne of his strait jacket so that the baby won't first see it's uncle tied up.In the delivery room, Belyle has a flashback to the childhood surgery that separated him and Dwayne and he goes wild and rips Uncle Hal "Not a constructive way to express your feelings!" chides Granny Ruth. The escaped Dwayne finds Opal who tells him she could love him if he could tell the truth about his secret problem. As little Hal videotapes, Eve delivers 12 hideous Basket Cases and is aglow when the murderous father is brought in while Dr. Hal lies in critical condition, missing half of his face. Dwayne meanwhile has been arrested and identified as one the Bradley twins for which a million dollar reward is being offered and the greedy deputies are on their way to Doctor Hal for the other. They find a mutant celebration in high gear which they assume is a satanic cult. They sneak in through the window and discover "A whole shitload of baby Belyles" which they decide to use for bait when Eve turns on them they blow her away and are able to make their escape chased by the mutants. At the prison Opal is attracted by the animal Dwayne and gets out her S&M gear to treat Dwayne like a naughty boy deserves but the Sheriff interrupts them. The Sheriff arrives at the doctor's house where the mutants surround him and Granny Ruth demands the babies back. Little Hal finally exposes himself to the horrified Sheriff ten feet tall with six arms. While one deputy scoffs at the idea of an army of mutants staging an old-fashioned jailbreak, the army is outside the jail. They place the basket at the door and leave. The Trojan horse scam works and the basket opens as Dwayne screams Belyle and a spectacular bloodbath promises to reunite the the estranged siblings, who plan to exact a bit more revenge with the help of Little Hal's ingenuity.
