Critique: It looks like BC hasn't come to grips with being the discarded half of the Siamese twin tandem. BC can talk to Dwayne psychically. Belyle's tortured screaming is a main source of chills here and we recommend that this movie be played loudly for full effect. The hunting down of the doctors that performed the separation becomes intertwined with Dwayne's fledgling attempts to fashion some kind of individual human social life--a place Belyle can never go. There's a poignant moment when Dwayne buys Belyle a TV to try to give him something to do, something that human beings do, while Dwayne goes on his first date. He is so nervous and in such a hurry that he doesn't set the TV to a station properly, and the result is that Belyle destroys the TV trying to adjust it. This very cheap movie tells a nice story with a very plausible and engaging conflict. Both Dwayne and Belyle are characters the viewer can identify with for their pain and isolation and alienation which becomes a thirst for revenge. Pretty cheap movie, though.
Plot Summary: Dr. Lefflander is hearing some strange bumping in his house. When he tries to call the police his phone cuts out. Someone is after him. He shoots into the darkened room. Then a deformed hand covers his face and blood is soon shooting across the room. A young man checks into a sleazy Hotel Broslin with a surprising wad of bills on him. He goes out for burgers and then begins talking to the 36 by 12 by 18 inch basket he brought with him and dropping in hamburger after hamburger to the ravenous inhabitant. He was looking up some addresses. They go to visit a "doctor friend". He arrives basket in hand at the office of H. Needleman. He gives the wrong name. He complains of pain in his chest and when he takes off his shirt, there's a long scar down his side. Dwight goes to a Karate movie and someone steals the basket. When he opens it, he's disappointed at what he finds as he loses part of his face. Needleman calls doctor Kutter. He wants to warn her about the visit from the young man from Glenn Falls with a scar down his side. She ignores the call. She doesn't seem to care that Lefflander was found cut in half. It appears she wants to put any association with him behind her. Dwayne returns to Needleman's place with the basket. The suspicious Needleman is disturbed by a sound in the hallway. Something's been tipped over. He begins barricading himself into his offices. The next thing he knows, something is in the room with him. Later, Dwayne buys a TV for Belyle to watch. It doesn't work out because brother doesn't know how to change the channels. Belyle gets bored and starts bellowing. He claymations about the place and while the neighbors gather outside to see what all the commotion is about. When they arrive, there's no one there as Belyle has returned to his basket. While everyone is looking around, a neighbor notices the wad of bills and returns to get some. Belyle has something to say about the situation as Brian Micky O'Donovan is found with deep lacerations all over his body. Dwight seems to know psychically that Belyle's killing Dwight returns to the apartment and answers the questions put to him by the police. The basket is empty. It turns out he hid in the toilet. Later Dwayne falls asleep in the bar and dreams of his past, of how they were attached until adolescence. Lefflander is Dwayne's father. He calls in Needleman and the other. In the operation, Belyle is given no anesthesia. Everyone thought Belyle wouldn't survive. After the operation, Dwayne wakes and hears Belyle in his mind. He goes to investigate and finds Belyle has been unceremoniously stuck in a trash bag to die. To sounds of a construction project, the father awakes to find Dwayne working in the cellar where the brutally chop him in half with a rip saw. The aunt understands the boys problem and promises to take care of them, and pretend in public that Belyle is dead. Meanwhile back at the hotel Belyle is causing more trouble. He attempts to have an intimate moment with Dwayne's prostitute friend. They visit Dr cutters office to find that she's a vet. She asks if he came to thank her and they accomplish mission number three. With the discovery of Dr. Needleman's body the secretary comes running to Dwayne for comfort but basket case loses his mind as the sex begins.
