Critique: Not a bad effect to have the rear view mirror in the beginning, but there just didn't seem to be any more money involved in this film than the original. Yeah, we get it, all these idiots did get to be in the film. Where's Jake? Where's Willie? Why this movie? Incredible acting on the part of the butler Joe and even worse on the part of Ulli as Mickey. Boring. As for the Shameless use of flashbacks rather than producing a new film, as weak as those scenes were in the first film, they seem great compared with this flop (the "Silent Night, Deadly Night" effect). Now, why on Earth did Joe steal the mirror piece? It was amusing to see some of the old "Boogeyman" scenes such as the bleeding priest and the floating possessed Lacey. Not too bad for such a cheap film, Cheap copy of the Amityville house and all. Seeing sleazy hollywood types always has some intrinsic interest, but having to spend the time with them before that is just torture.
Plot Summary: A California pool scene is being filmed. Bonnie Lombard has invited Lacey out to the scene of the shoot. The sleazy producer wants more flesh. The girls talk about a murder. Lacey claims there is no murderer in spite of the fact that her uncle, her aunt and a priest were killed. Via incredibly extended flashbacks, she reports the story of the events of part one at the kitchen table. Bonnie gets the idea that Lacey's story would make a fine movie. Mickey is concerned that would be exploiting Lacey, but Bonnie hates feeling like a beggar. Later, talking to Mickey, Lacey pulls out an Indian arrow, some turquoise and tears of Indian stone as a grounding of forces of good and evil along with a St. Benedict's metal. Guess what else? The piece of mirror. She says only she can touch it. The butler has been watching. We get more mirror flashbacks when the reflection from the pool reminds Lacey of the mirror stuck on Kevin's shoe. A party is arranged for that night so that everyone can hear Lacey's story. The mysterious butler goes into Lacey's box and grabs the mirror shard. Now hadn't he heard he wasn't to do that. Soon we get a crazy butler Joe's eye view. Joe has disappeared by the time of the party. Inane party guests: Jim and Priscilla (distribution), Constance and Sandor, Hobby and Cathy and Cynthia, Bernie, Sally. More flashbacks as Lacey describes the finale with the shard attaching itself to her eye, and the extended scene of her with her back turned and talking possessed. Lacey sees in quintuplet for some reason, but like most in her condition, she's a hit at the party. Everyone agrees this is the movie to make. Halloween slashers are old hat. What people want is suspense and melodrama...huh? Did they hear Lacey's story? People continue to talk stupidly about making horror movies. People talk to Lacey about the project. She doesn't seem to think it's a very good topic for a movie. She warns them that it's in their interest to let it drop. She's no doubt right. Pretty soon some of the kid's toys are animating. The party-goers are being watched from the bushes. A chain saw and a bolt cutter are removed from the shed. Now, why are both implements moving at once. Cathy and Sander begin to sense something's wrong. Pretty soon the implements come at them. In spite of the remarkably shoddy and confusing special effects, we infer they're done for. Next, Harvey and one of the women have a "casting" conversation in the bathroom. Pretty soon the lights go out and the toiletries start rattling. They are foamed and tooth brushed to death. The other producer type, Berine, starts in on Cynthia in the car. Pretty soon the garage door starts opening and closing and Cynthia's hopes for playing the role of Lacey are exhausted. Priscilla grills Lacey further about the story, but soon she and Jim are grilled pretty well themselves. Lacey finally finds that the mirror piece has disappeared. When Lacey and Bonnie see Joe with the mirror piece they go for a open-field tackle into the pool. Mickey walks around making inane comments about the chambre des morts while the girls struggle with the possessed butler. End with a recap of the stupid story we just see and you know we're in four-land. Oh, expect a monster intermezzo while you're about it.
