Critique: This is a dreadful, hilariously failed Bride of Frankenstein meets Pit and the Pendulum remake, complete with Igor (Greg!), a secluded castle, electrical storms, and an insane plastic surgeon. The film boasts poor picture quality and particularly bad lighting. Greg offers up a pretty miserable performance, and the rest of the cast weakly follows his mumbling limping lead. The cuts are often so baffling that it is almost impossible to follow what has happened next except that the film is utterly predictable and each scene is endless. Still, this film will be of interest to some. It is truly one of the lousiest movies ever made, but good for some laughs due to the terrible acting, particularly the embarrassing narrations of the mad scientist who narrates every thought and move ala Felix the Cat. Some extremely realistic gory dismemberment takes place. The pace never fails to disappoint as the bloody events file by the mesmerized viewer like disinterested sand through an incomprehensibly large hourglass. Be the scene relevant or not, it will be drawn out. The cheap electric organ version of "My Favorite things" is disturbingly pleasing.
YIKES! AWARD TIME!: Star Don Brandon is touted as "America's #1 magician" in the cheap credits. Having compared his troubling performance with that of America's real #1 magician, we declare Don Brandon YIKES! Favorite Magician, until he should be outdone in a horror movie! It should be mentioned that Copperfield already tried in Terror Train, but failed.
Plot Summary: Anitra Brandon, society's darling, winner of countless beauty pageants, and the wife of the prominent plastic surgeon is killed in a car wreck. At her funeral, Dr. Brandon promises they won't be separated for long at her funeral; he believes he has discovered the secret of life. He needs only a good specimen to begin his experiments. With his hideous hunchback assistant, Greg, Dr. Brandon goes to the cemetery where they dig up a beautiful healthy (dead) specimen which they cover with tin foil. They then connect electrodes to the tin foil and administer full power. The experiment is shut down when a series of electrical malfunctions threatens to burn down the lab and do in fact burn up his excellent specimen. He declares the setback only temporary and promises his wife she'll be back soon, only this time: "you'll be perfect". Soon thereafter, a package arrives with a fresh, if excessively bloody, young female cadaver. The professor proposes a deal with Greg, "You help me with my experiments and I'll make you normal like other people." Greg readily agrees. The professor goes out for a swim with a beautiful woman and soon he's holding her under water and he brings her lifeless corpse back to the lab, where they begin sawing off her legs. The nearly perfect torso is entered into the collection of body parts. Dr. Brandon is particularly concerned to find some delicate hands for the true touch of femininity. They go to a country western club featuring "Bill Hicks and Reignbeaux". A musical interlude drones on for some time. A woman throws food in a man's face and storms out of a restaurant. The professor waits outside and apparently saves the woman from her date. He shows great interest in her hands. She wakes up during her unscheduled operation after one hand is already removed. Next, the Doctor meets a long-legged girl, whom he mesmerizes with his eyes. He chops off one of her arms and throws it into the acid vat while the girl squirms eyelessly. The specimens are kept alive during the operation for freshness. The assembly process begins and the Dr. dedicates agonizing attention to the sewing process. After this interminable process, the switch is thrown and the voltimeters climb again. This time it only takes a few minutes before sparks start flying and the body starts to flex. However, this is just a preliminary process. The assembled corpse lies on a slab and eventually the professor takes a stethoscope to it. He smiles, seemingly satisfied. He states, "I've done it". He reveals her face and her eyes dart around. He kisses her and the wedding march begins to play. He then hypnotizes her into forgetting her past life and to fulfill his every whim. He wants her to know of no other human being and tells Greg he, too, must stay out of the big house. While the assemblage begins her new life, Greg sits in the dark consoling himself with peppermint schnapps. In an arduous process, Dr. Brandon begins lessons for his creation and keeps a journal of her education. This crawls along as they sit on the couch and he shows her object after object. All is going well when they spend their first date of them floating about on a pond and kissing in a music video. At length she finds Greg in the small house and, knowing no other behavior, begins cuddling with him. Dr. Brandon enters and throws acid in Greg's face. As "Alicia" cuddles a cat, Greg trips on some of the instrumentation and is eventually dumped in the acid vat. A workman arrives to "clean the furnace and haul the ashes". She tells him that a woman is made to be loved and asks him if he wants to love her. The fat workman agrees this is a good idea and they head off in his truck. He boasts to others in the bar about their night together and of how she disappeared. Dr. Brandon meanwhile sits in his jail cell remembering the times with Alicia. A man in a van sees Alicia on the side of the road and she asks him if he is going to haul her ashes. Fin.
