Critique: The pace is not too convincing after the opening but it picks up considerably in the second half. Although Mary Lou bring us some surprises from the after life--no God, no heaven, no wings--, thus, she hasn't changed much basically, she's just very angry and has supernatural powers. Once she makes her comeback, the movie moves splendidly, with good special effects and a scary ending.
Plot Summary: Nice Gothic cathedral where Mary Lou goes to confess she has disobeyed parents, used the lord's name in vane and had sinful relations with many boys many times and informs the father "I loved every minute of it!" Prom night 1957 she ditches Billy Nordham (the school's future principal) and goes behind the stage with Cooper (ironically, later Father Cooper) defending her behaviour with a line from "Prom Night," "It's not who you come with, it's who takes you home!" Mary Lou is one of those types that simply has to be the prom queen--yay Hamilton High! When pranksters throw a stink bomb on the stage mary lous moment in the spotlight ends in a ball of fire. Vicki'strict mother doesn't approve of a new dress or the date Craig Nordham. the principal's son. An old steamer chest that keeps vibrating in the schools prop room why is Vicki opening it visions of Mary Lou haunt her prom night date now school principal when the class of 86 starts digging out the props of 57, a gruesome string of murders begins. The first girl is hanged using the prom queen's cape after callously dislodging a stone from the crown, although her death is believed to be a suicide. As in all slasher movies, there is one type-a personality competing for the honor of prom queen. In aparallel scene to the opener, Mary Lou confesses to having had sinful thoughts, being angry with her mother and suffering visions of Mary Lou Maloney. This ovbviously shakes the Father Cooper. vickis parents have noticed her recentstrange behaviorst. When Cooper attempts an exorcism at Mary Lou's grave, his bible bursts into flames. Is Cooper's theory correct that a person who dies a violent death comes back to possess those responsible? Close enough.
