Critique: One of the few films we've seen that ranks six "nos-nots" on our particulars list. Of course, there's a hitch here, in that the film is not terribly interesting as well as not very scary, bad news for a horror movie. It does, however, have a pre-Indiana Jones Harrison Ford, showing an early penchant for hitting on his students and these aren't even college women yet.
Plot Summary: As Mrs. Summer types a document at the Helen Page school fo Girls, her paper suddenly bursts into flames. As the girls prepare for the 53rd graduation ceremony, strange happenings are on the increase. While about to execute a prank, the pranksters get a scary surprise when the victim's room suddenly bursts into flames. Valedictorian Payne and x barely escape. At rehearsal for graduation, Payne is rehearsing her speech when her robe suddenly combusts spontaneously. The police Sgt. believes that the fire was the result of a short circuit in the microphone wiring. School director Lou x doesn't see how that could be, although there is no other explanation. Kevin Lahey, an abstinent alcoholic arrives and thinks he may be able to help. He declares that evil has arrives here and makes clear that he has no affiliation to a church, that there are no standard rules of procedure nor ritual and that every case requires a different solution. He assures the staff that he is committed to helping. Payne survives her ordeal and is paid a visit by Lahey and Mrs. Summer as she lies in hydrotherapy. She may still lose her leg. When sked what she can remember about the incident, she is overcome by pain and unable to recall anything. She says only that the first fire was exactly like the second fire. She admits that she wasn't in the room at the time. The door opened easily from the outside, but would not budge from the inside. Weezie wasn't in the room when Payne left to find her. Lahey then speaks to Weezie alone. She was visiting Mr. Winjam the biology teacher (when?). Meanwhile, Winjam is teaching his class. He shows his students a scary spider that mummifies its victims - th dreaded Black Widow! He offers pupil Jane a dollar to touch the jar.
