Critique: First of all this is by no means a horror film but a 70's rape-exploitation "experience" in which so little happens that it does not fulfill the modern meaning of drama. Whatever it is genre-wise, this is a bad movie with the kind of pace you imagine a cheap seventies film would have - glacial. The musical interludes are just appalling. To the modern ear, these people say abysmally stupid things. When eating blackberries, Jenny gets berry juice on her face and the hero Robert says "Check out the Al Jolsen". This is indeed a period piece. Try a nice game of cards or some drugs to get you through this one. Prop-person watch: Watch for the disappearing and reappearing sleeping bags. Apparently, this movie was made in order to portray a rape. This is a mindless exploitation film with no redeeming qualities other than the degrading Rudy Vallee scene. Indeed, this scene makes the movie suddenly worth buying! At a stop for supplies, the still happy kids investigate the apparently abandoned store only to find old Rudy Vallee crooning and reminiscing in the storage room. A pricelessly bad cameo and a YIKES! Best Cameo Award for 1930's crooner Rudy Vallee. (They must have got him for a song!) Aside from the brief crooning, utterly unentertaining. Stars an unknown Robert Englund who later evolved into Freddy Krueger out of frustration.
Plot Summary: It appears that the action begins in an astrology class where it's established that important philosophers hold that a new age is dawning in which traditional values are forfeit. At a college party there's a blowup. It appears that Marshall and Jenny's romance has just about played itself out. Jenny and her boyhood sweetheart, Robert, go off and hear the decrepit Rudy Vallee sing "Bah Bah Blacksheep". They ask about their friend Michael Sutherland. Frankie tells them there's strange things happened where he lives, out on Navarro ridge. Then they get directions from Rudy and they're off to the ridge. Hey! what happened to the sleeping bags? Hey!! Where'd the sleeping bags come from when it's time for bed? I guess the best boy and key grip were carrying them. They wake up in the morning to find a black bear consuming their food. They go in skinny dipping and then some red necks show up to harass them. They survive the encounter. However, later the rednecks come in the night and rape Jenny. Michael shows up and makes Jenny Tea and tries to council her through her rape. Cuntface stumbles around in the woods until he finds the rednecks. After fighting them, Cuntface predicts they won't be back. Jenny has a revelation regarding her rape. They live happily after after.
