Plot Summary: Woods near Quantico Va. Agent Clkarice psychology and criminology is called to her boss to help write a serial killer personality profile by interviewing the infamous Hanibal the Cannibal Lector. Boss wants the report by Wednesday, in the hope that Lectors' insights will help solve the breakthe Buffalo Bill case. He warns Starling not to taell Lector anything personal lector is a psychological sponge. The warden tells her of a visit in 1981 in which Lector bit off a visitors tongue and ripped out her eyes. Clarisse is allowed alone through three bar doors to find lector waiting behind plexiglass. Lector is surprised that Jack Crawford has sent a recruit to interview him. Lector points out Starling's psychological errors and agrees to look at her question page. Lector describes her personal history to a tee and dismisses her adding that the last who interviewed him he ate their liver with a good chianti.
Clarisse flashbacks to her happy family life with cop father. Back at FBI school, weapons and tactics, then on to research Lector. Crawford calls Starling. Off to Baltimore to a storage firm on the clue Moffatt from Lector
Clarisse drives to Baltimore and searches the storage garage of x. Amongst the e lectic junque, she discovers a man's head in a jar. Sandra Moffat. When Clarisse asks Lector whose head was in the jar, he suggests she ask about Buffalo Bill. He tells her of his patient. For causing Miggs death, Lector must sit in the dark, his drawings are removed, and religious television is played full blast. Memphis, Tn. A young woman loaded with groceries stops to help a man load a chair into his van. once in the van he asks her if she wears size x and beats her unconscious and cuts open her clothing with a scissor.
Clay County West Va. Crawford reads Starling the report and shows her the grisly photos of the victim. He kept her three days shot her and skinned her then flung her into a lake. On the way to x in a car, Starling complains to Crawford he should have informed her she was being used to get Buffalo Bill information from him. Crawford explains ;ector would have seen through her in an instant. Starling and Crawford arrive at a victim's funeral Starling flashes back to her father's funeral. The crew perfumecreams their noses and opends the water corpse. Starling records her observations and Starling notices something in her throat. The physician removes an insect cocoon from her throat, obviously placed intentionally. Starling arrives at the insect experts who identify the insect as an african killer. Meanwhile, from the bottom of a well, in a cellar, a woman cries for help. The lastest disappearance is the daughter of the senator. In a televised plea, the senator's wife repeats the name Catherine and appeals to the kidnapper's semnse of power. Starling visits Lector with a promise of a hospital a week at the beech. Lector agrees to give her information in exchange for information about herself. She admits that her worst childhood experience was her father's death. Lector asks if the girl's were fat. He guesses that the object in the throats was a butterfly. He explains that the metamorphasis is the definitive of the butterfly. Meanwhile, the killer, holding a poodle, forces Catherine to lotion her skinb or he will squirt her with a hose. The smarmy doctor taunts lector, who is prepared to travel strapped to a dolly with a cage over his face. Smarmy Doctor insists that Lector tell him the identity of buffalo bill.
In a warehouse, the fastened Lector comes face to face with the senator' Martin. Lector tells the senator that buffalo bill is the lover of a former patient and claimed to live in Philadelphia.
Clarisse visits Lector who suggests simplification and demands to know what happened on the ranch in Montana. She explained how she heard the screams of a childs voice, ran from home and snuck into the stall and saw the lambs screaming, she tried to free them but they were too confused. She was sent to an orphanage. Lector explains that Starling believes that by saving catherine the nightmares of the lambs screaming will stop. As the smarmy doctor and police drag Clarisse off, Lector fails to reveal bill's identity. As he hands her her files, he runs his finger over her hand and tells her to let him know when the lambs stop screaming. At feeding time lector is handcuffed but uses a pin to uncuff himself he cuffs the one policeman to a bar bites out the others tonguge, then beats the cuffed one to death with his own club. After listening to classical music Lector takes the elevator. Police note, and call the food officers. En mass, they head upstairs to discover a grisly featuring one disemboweled officer hanging in an angel pse. As police and ambulance crew ride down in elevator, blood drips from the ceiling. From above th police site Lector lying ogn the elevator. A sharpshooter places a shot oin his leg but no movement. The cop falls through theroof in lector's clothes. As the ambulance rushes to the hospital, the patient arises, an removes the policeman's face to reveal lector.
Starling visits Friederike Bimmel's father and finds seminude photos of x and a dress pattern for the human dress. As Starling interviews townie Stacy, Crawford flies to Chicago to cathch the killer. Stacey gives Starling the address of Mrs. Lipmann the tailor. Catherine manages to lure the killers poodle into her well. As the police brak into the wrong house, Starling rings Lipmann's doorbell answered by Jack Gordon, who tells her Litman had a son whose card must be around. As clarisse chats with gordon, a moth lands on a collection of thread. Starling pulls gher gun, but Gordon escapes to the cellar. Starling follows Catherine's screams to the ewell and sets off after the killer. As she discovers a bathtub with a rotten body inside, the lights go out and the killer tiptoes up to her with night-vision goggles. As she hears his gun click, she wheels and kills him with x shots. At graduation, Lector calls to ask if the lambs have stopped screaming. In a third world country, Lector tails the smarmy doctor, who believes
