Critique: A geeky pizza jerk/attrocious guitar player who is fed up with his life, accepts fame and the satisfaction of his every desire in return for his immortal soul. Faust lite. As always, there's a catch. There is a market for these films, and for those who want a particularly clunky rock horror video, and all that comes with it, this is your night. We do these films as a public service here at Yikes. Plenty of over acting by pals of the producer, lots of nudity (except, of course, for Tracy Lords, who gets the star-exemption) and simply absurd heavy meal passages punctuate a paper thin plot. What have we done with the Faust story? Where Faust had achieved every worldly goal, and wanted greater spiritual wisdom--a comment on the poverty of the Elightenment--our modern day Faust just wants to get chicks. Perhaps this is supposed to be a comment on the poverty of modern music and society. More likely it's a convenient vehicle for showing nudity and a large body count. No great shakes on the special effects score, however. The super fast guitar playing is just absurd. It is fairly amusing that the fans all go berserk when they see the guitar stuff. Smoke doesn't quite come up from the strings. A real audience would have simply shaken their heads and called for them to go back to the seventies where they belonged. Spending time with these people is no treat. It is somewhat amusing when, as Lindsy admits she is attracted to Martin, he is busy puking out bluish green goo behind her back. Other than a few such successful camp moments, the film is a chore. Guitar "Wizardry" by Michael Angelo of Nitro.
Plot Summary: A band is looking for a lead guitarist. The Purple haze rendition by the latest hopeful is particularly weak. The call goes out for any guitar player at all--even Martin, a geeky peeking Tom of the Pizza palace. The gig that the band has booked looks like it isn't going anywhere. Our geek is even worse than the last guy. In going to the audition, our geek loses his job, but he runs into a voo doo woman who promises Martin she can give him what he wants. Sitting in his trailor park playing his guitar is sufficiently annoying that he gets a punch in the stomache. Martin shows up at the voodoo woman's place. She promises him the satisfaction of every worldly desire in return for his soul. No problem--surely nothing to be lost there. He asks to be the greatest rock star in the world. She dips a knife in a witch's brew and stabs him in the chest. He awakens in a foggy cheap music video, approaching a grave. Inside is a skelleton which becomes his own discolored body. A two necked guitar playing ram-satan figure (the soul of rock such as it is?) plays for him, an electrical charge exchanges between them, and he is unconscious. He wakes up with a heavy metal haircut in a room with two sex girls. They seem to know what is going on. He heads off to the band and grabs the guitar away from the hippie type who was the guitar player and "Angel'" playing wows them. After the audition, "Angel" Martin heads back to the waterbed with one of his sex kittens. Martin catches a glimpse of Michelle's face in the mirror and it looks scarred. That's the catch with her deal with the devil. Martin is soon to find out his catch-- Martin and one of the other girls who has already lost her soul as well can't eat anything or they will die. He has to kill people to survive as she does. We're into vampire land. The boys from the band show up for the party. The voodoo woman shows up as well. She hands him a box of daggers. He tells her he wants the manager of the band--the girlfriend of the bass player--and the voodoo witch tells him he must baptise her with her own blood. Martin heads off with two hangers on supposedly for pizza. He starts pushing around the employees he used to work with and then makes off with some pizza. Martin returns to the pizza joint and jabs Tony with the special knife--a blue glow exudes from him and Martin soaks it up. The next day is the big showcase gig. The lead singer takes a little heroin just to get in the mood, and then "Spastic colon" is on. If you think it's been bad up till now wait till you see this. The big guitar lead is just ludicrous. He kicks the lead guitarist off the stage and takes over the singing himself. He then breaks out the double necked guitar, and the crowd is just overjoyed. Remarkable. Not just that, but they break into Purple Haze. The lead singer left his keys on the stage and can't even get back in. Aterward, it's all "I can't believe how fast he played!" Angel is weakened after the gig and spies a female whose life force he can sap. The dejected lead singer is moping around in the parking lot, and he goes to confront Martin just as he plunges the knife in. Then the screaming guitar player is cornered, and he is blued as well. Angel later is presented to the powers that be in recording. Martin plays it coy and doesn't go for their offer. He heads off with the manager, Lindsie, and he begins the guitar seduction and then gets in the pool while her back is turned. He tries to seduce her into the water, but she refuses. Martin heads back to the trailor camp to settle a score or so. He finds the trailorcamp manager on the toilet and begins shoving him around, but he manages to escape when Martin gets distracted by the TV. This film. An investigator comes around asking about Martin, but in a mixup he is stabbed. The deal is closed and they are signed. Martin insists Lindsie come by to discuss business, but they kiss and she promises to return later. Greg sees Marilyn's reflection in one of the guitars and sees that she is burned, and later the drummer says he had seen the same thing, but had thought he had just been on drugs. Then Greg sees what he thinks is Lindsie heading toward the house and tells the drummer to go get the police. The night's dinner, another girl, is chased around as Greg watches through the window. The cops arrive, and Greg tells them about the girl and the cops are led in. Greg dashes about looking for the corpse, but can't find it. The cops quickly lose patience, and Greg and the drummer are marched out of the place. When Martin sees the investigator in the closet, he decides they will eat out from then on. Greg tells Lindsie about what went on, but she seems to want to see Angel anyway. Angel tells Michelle she won't be needed for her appointed duties. Michelle takes it badly and heads to Lindsie's house. Michelle chases Lindsie around her apartment with a knife, but Martin saves her in the nick of time. He stabs her and she turns into the burn victim she is. He calls the house to get the girls to bring a knife and a snake to the amphitheatre, so that Lindsie can be changed. Greg goes to the witch's house. The witch tells Greg that if he eats anything, Angel will die. Greg is tempted by the Faustian offer as well, but he backs out. Greg gets himself a tube of food concentrate and sneaks into Martin's place. Monique returns from lugging bodies and Greg forces some concentrate down her throat, which kills her. Martin returns with Lindsie knocked out and they head into the rehearsal studio. They haul out a tub of water and an axe and prepare to initiate Lindsie. Greg sneaks in and the remaining sex kitten, Marilyn attacks him with an axe, but he gets past her. Martin plays fast at Linzie and oozes blue foam and prepares tochange her. He puts some potion in the wading pool and lets the snake into the water. Greg comes and tries to save her. He manages to pump food through his neck, and Martin explodes. The other band thought all this was a rehearsal for a video and cheers wildly. The witch approaches another down and out rock and roller.
