Critique: Hubbard is jhust an over actor. It's hard to see how we are supposed to react to Richard's callous treatment of the watress Lillian who he's been seeing since Beth left. It's a nice touch thgat she knows the score. We really don't get enough of Hubbard to accept her mad scient routine. Her motivations simply seem bizarre. It's not easy to warm up to anyone here including the director.
Plot Summary: Northport. The sheriff, Richard,is having problems with roaches in his apartment. Beth, the sheriff's old flame, and mayor Elias' daughter, comes in to the island on a plane after four years. "Intec" has settled on the island and has promised big changes. Out at the old lighthouse, Richard hears an oddd sound and goes to check it out--but it's just old Jake. Beth hears a dog yelp and goes to investigate. It's been stripped almost to the bode in seconds. Soon old Jack hears that sound and tries to hide--unsuccussfully. Dr. Hubbard of Intec arrives on a plane . She's to take over the invesigation of the dog "mishap". Dr. Hubbard gets the cutest kitten she can find as bait and soon it is reduced to bodnes. Hubbard especially admires how these cockroaches reproduce without te contributon of males. Beth finds plans among her father's things that indicate an area that has been taken over by Intec and goes to investigate. The roachaes Hubbard collected are very hard to kill. they can be killed using doses that are deadly to humans. Beth's investigatios lead to trouble. She tries running from the frying bacon sound. Soon all over the island attacks are happening. Elias wants to back off, bu6 there doesn't seem to be any way of getting to the beggars. Is there a way to find the qenn that's controlling their murderous behavior? Things get pretty cheesy when they become what they ingest. The cat-roach is simply ludircous and that's just the beginning. There are a few attempts at humor that work at best occasoally. As in arachnophobia the town pest control guy is the cut up.
