Critique: Put a first-time director together with a crew of inexperienced actors and get! Frozen Scream. Put it on one video cassette as a double feature with the truly vapid film The Intruder, and you've got one homely videocassette. Some damn stiff acting. This film is difficult to follow, particularly since one is not much motivated to decipher any sense form it. There's some immortality issue mumbled about all through the film. The blunt, absurd dialogue might be amusing if you were not drugged with lethargy by the random time jumps and meandering plot. Oh, and the acting.Apparently this film is a vehicle for Renee to get on film. She was so sure she could be a big star. The search for immortality still has a few glitches going through eternity as a frigid zombie may not appeal. At least there is a depressing music video interlude of "Rock Around the Clock" to befuddle you.
Plot Summary: A swimming pool couple is slain by a wild eyed stranger. A woman in a lab coat sews a button on the wound in a woman's neck. Anne is driving on a foggy night- with a full moon. As she chats on the pay phone, a stalker approaches. Tom gets a call from a cackler--he already knew something is up, but was rather vague in warning Anne away from the house. Dark hooded characters show up talking about judgment day. He is injected with something and falls to the ground. A voice over drowns out a very stiff conversation between Anne and Lil. This technique is not successful. Lil, Sven, Dr. Johnson's assistant, who teaches at the university, is interrogated by McGuire about some students of hers. The acting is just amazing. You'll not find worse. Anne has some troubling dreams of Tom at a ritual killing featuring the sickle wielding death. After her convalescence, Anne heads back to the university. Another hooded attacker arrives and another woman is dispatched. Back at the beach the students chant about love and immortality, Catherine takes off her clothes. Tom is doing research on immortality involving drugs and chanting. Father O'Brien's involved. Of course, Lil is worried about interfering with nature--the beings they create are not human--she claims. Lil injected herself with the drug, and soon she's sucking her own blood. Kevin McGuire shows up to talk to Anne about Tom. Anne still says she saw Tom murdered, but no one believes her, they all think it was just a heart attack. McGuire enlists Anne to dig up something. Father O'Brien is strangled at confession. Anne gets a call from Tom who claims his body is cold. The hooders show up for Anne. Apparently the hooder has just by to have a bit of fun scaring Anne. Anne also notices Katherine has cold hands. Anne gets a file from Lil's office of one of the student's who was murdered. Believe it or not, there's a music video interlude of rock around the clock. The frigid zombie Catherine collapses in the middle of the tune. Why doesn't Lil have anything on under her lab coat? Incredibly, the film continues to drag along. It certainly seems to have achieved the eternity the Ben had sought. Anne sneaks into Johnson's house and finds a group of zombicles in the freezer. Even when one grabs at her she just walks out at a slightly hurried pace. Kevin shows up, and they are chased by Johnson and a henchman--this part features perhaps the fastest fight in film history, but Kevin does manage to gouge some impressive holes in a zombicle. Will zombie Tom kill his wife? Will Anne end up Zombified?
