Critique: The pace and the constant changing of scenes is certainly engaging and the film keeps you guessing until the end who is behind this. The hooded figures and the seance are scary and the people at the seance are dressed like satan worshippers and their seance looks just a black sabbath makes one a bit suspicious. Good production values. Shadow on the wall is the constant companion. The dance scene is great. Greg really couldn't cut a rug with a carpet knife. Paul conducting the orchestra to Mozart is a riot. The orchestra must have been shaking their heads. Walton fans will be shocked to see the completely naked Erin engaged in a full fledged simulated sexual situation.
Plot Summary: A guy at a swimming pool gets his head bashed in with a baseball bat as his daughter calls for him. Josh and Greg, two high school students, illegally enter a Funeral Home warehouse to plunder the former bosses' stuff. A coffin in the warehouse has an arm dangling from it. Upon inspection of another coffin the boys find a machine gun a top hat in another section they find embalming stuff. They are off in search of the tires when they hear chanting down cellar. The Boss Mr. Andrews and Christie's mom who they had suspected was a witch. They believe it's a seance. Josh was fired for interrupting just such a ritual at the mortuary. While rolling the tires out he discovers Mrs. Andrews in the coffin. Josh is run through with a sword and blood draining hose by a zombie like thing in robe while Greg searcghes the warehouse for him. Greg and Christie go the rollerrink "Skating Plus" to look for Josh and the van. Greg's van is there but Josh is not. It's a boring place, but the gang is there. Still, they depart to find that Josh's van is gone. They climb in the back seat to make out and are being attacked by a killer when Greg's parents interrupopt the dangerous liason. At Cliffside Junior College. Greg decides to check the sheriff's office as Christie is tailed as she approaches her outrageosly plush estate. As we meet her mother, it is clear that she was at the Sabbath. Christie is angry that her mother is dating less than a month after her father's death. The Sheriff throws Greg out accusing him of playing stunts. Mr. Andrews is there but denies any knowlege of a seance and calls Greg a liar. The Sheriff puts out an APB on Josh. Christie is haunted by dreams of her father's death and sleepwalks out to the pool followed closely by a skulker. Into the water she walks and awekes at the deepend and turns around. Somebody in a black cape tries to stab her. Her mother assures her she's dreaming. In a moment of frustration, Christie shouts "You're in it with them!" The next day Greg tells Christie he saw her mother at the "seance". The nerdy kid with a crush on Christie is Hanbk Andrews' kid and works as an embalmer. Greg's parents are florists and can ill afford the ongoing confilict between Mr. Andrews and their son. To this, Mr. Andrews tells him he will end up in one of his caskets if he doesn't let up. Adding "Geyt out of here before I embalm you. Christie and Greg drive to Christies where unusually the lights are all out. No power. The power goes on and off. The mother attributes everything to Christies overactive imagination. Christie believes the mother is trying to drive her insane. The kids observe Christie's mother meet with the Sheriff and Andrews, get into Andrews' car. The kids follow them to the mortuary and spy on a seance. They are attempting to communicate with Mr. George Parsons. The seance is to ask him to leave Christie alone as she is very troubled. Now Christie is convinced hger mother is okay, but still believes someone is after her. As the kids have sex, someone nears but Christie spies a photo of her father and the fun is canceled. Christie is sleepwalking again as a hooded figure instructs her to open the window. She attempts toi stab him and runs screaming to her mother. We learn that Paul Andrews had such an obsession with Christie, that he was nearly institutionalized after an argument with the father. Mr. Andrews insisted he could take better care of his son than any institution. Maybe Paul has something to do with father's death or with the haunting. That night a hooded figure braeaks into the house and stabs mother repeatedly. Christie awakes and a chase ensues. The attacker finally onvercomes clorophorms her and drags her off. Meanwhile Chris is on the way to her house to save her. Christie lies on the embalming table. The embalmer promises to take tender loving care as the process begins. Mr. Andrews and Paul are in a final showdown as Chris arrives to decide the outcome in front of the backdrop of a grizly Chambre du corps mort assembled for the slasher's wedding.
