Critique: The ending is a bust.
Plot Summary: Sarah has been beaten--she calls emergency from a telephone booth. She shows up at her sister April's apartment. She's your basic loser ugly duckling. It's decided that the sisters go to the cottage in the country. Bobby, who beat her up, shows up at the cottage. We dislike Bobby. He's a cad. A realistic assessment of the value of restraining orders: Sarah doesn't get one. Sarah finds a book on Haitian rituals in the cottage, given to April by a friend. Sarah begins the ritual, and soon spell takes on its own life. She is beautiful. Unfortunately, she says an extra Ilyacazume', and something comes out of the mirror and takes over Sarah's body. The "empress Sura" picks up a bar tender. As it turns out, Sura was an Egyptian Goddess. Our bartender makes the error of fooling with her candles. Sura tears her throat out. April calls, and it seems Sarah is back. But is Sarah Sura? The next pickup looks like he's doing alright until he writes 'thanks' on the mirror. She's particularly possessive about the mirror. Now Bobby's back. He's up to his old tricks, but an ilyacazume' and Bobby's heart is torn out. The next day and Sarah is happily cleaning, until the bodies start falling out of the closets. April arrives, and finds Sarah burying something in the back yard. Sarah behaves unacceptably, and hits April with a shovel. Sarah's back and she's confused. We have a fight with Sura, and quick thinking by April breaking the mirror staves off Sura. Who can they go to? They go to the yellow pages. Only John Smith looks acceptable under spiritual advisers.
John seems competent. John's idea is to slow down her ability to think and respond supernaturally. But soon our confidence wanes. Sura is soon toying with them, and causes April to shoot her girlfriend.
