Critique: This movie will have a clear appeal to certain interest groups. An asylum for nymphomaniacs is the perfect vehicle in the tireless search for excuses to show naked women on screen. This movie receives its "very violent" rating from its realistic portrayal of violence, the tone of the language and the obvious implied sexual molestation.
Plot Summary: Monroe doesn't want to spend the next ten years in jail, so he needs to get his hands on the bank statements held by Susan's mother. She intends to go to the authorities. Monroe has other plans. Susan is a witness to her mother's strangling at the hands of a hired goon who has come to collect the papers. Susan is injured from in a fall while escaping her mother's killer, and comes down with a case of amnesia. The villains dare not finish her off because she's the only person who might know where the papers are. They arrange to have her placed in an institution, the Ashland sanitarium for women, where she is supervised by Dr. Monroe's henchmen. The customers in the institution are largely female drug addicts and nymphomaniacs. The institution features Dr. Fletcher, the director of the institution, a dominatrix who prefers her women when they aren't breathing any longer. Fletcher is involved in brain damage inducing experiments in the basement not approved by the town inspectors. When they have her safely within their clutches, Monroe's henchman, Silk, leans on Susan, trying to get her to admit she's faking the amnesia. Slick has an operative who doubles as a pornographic picture girl and shower room brawler. She is urged to find out about the orderly, Ron, who draws suspicion on himself by treating some of the inmates as human beings. Ron is Susan's only ally, a largely ineffectual detective masquerading as an orderly. This is a place where beautiful women routinely fight for the viewing audience. We get an inkling of the darker side of Ashland when a woman is dragged away from such a fracas and told that she's "Fletcher's meat now and is never gonna be the same.' Once they take you to the Hellhole, you never come back. Ron sneaks down to the site of these scientific excesses and watches as another girl is a failure in their attempt to perfect the chemical lobotomy process. There Fletcher has a colleague, Miles, who seems to have some ethical sense. Will he help Susan when her time comes? Ron manages to get word of these goings on to the medical examiners. Will they be in time to help? Susan's attempt to escape takes her into the bowels of the hell hole for a showdown with both sets of tormentors. Welcome to the middle of the picture. Hit fast forward. There are some pace problems.
