Chapter one: Terror in Topanga
A cop haas pulled a young woman over at for having a broken tail light. When she drives off, he hears something in the bushes. he is attacked from behind. Very realistic. William Henry Glazier has escaped from a mental institution and is wanted for questioning in connection with a series of brutal knife slayings. Lisa goes out for cigarettes nonetheless over the protests of her husband, Phil. As she drives, a hitchhiker wearing grey (institutional?) tries to get in the car, but she drives away quickly. Leaving the convenience store she realizes that she's about out of gas. The two stations are both closed and she tries to make it home on the fumes--luckily she pulls up to a 24 hour station--or is it lucky?
Chapter Two--The Bishop of Battle
JJ (Emilio Estevez) and the younger Zack show up at a video arcade to hustle the locals to get quarters so that he can face the bishop of battle. JJ heard that some kid in Jersey got to the thirteenth level with the Bishop. Some think there is no thirteenth level. When his parents see JJ's report card, he is grounded. JJ knows he's close to his peak--if he doesn't make it now, he never will. He sneaks out and breaks into the empty arcade. As we can guess, level thriteen holds something unexpected.
Chapter Three--The Benediction
Father Frank (Lance Henriksen) has been troubled by nightmares. He goes to the bishoop with his doubts and his questions about how pervasive the signs of evil are. The crisis of faith forces him to give up on his vocation. Father Luis pleads with him to stay, but the well is dry. Out in the desert, heading as far from his Mexican mission as he can get, Frank has an encounter with a pickup truck. First it tries to run him off the road, and then later succeeds in doing so. The attacking pickup is a benediction.
