Critique: After witnessing his father live out a masochistic fantasy with a prostitute, young George hacks the couple to death with an axe. As an adult, George escapes from a secret rehabilitation reprogramming agency and returns home to annihilate his family, where his son CJ. defeats him. The agency guys whose story line simply fades away, wouldn't have been able to act it out ayway.
Plot Summary: George is having a bad night. he wakes up and sees a woman's head at the foot of his bed which opens it eyes--he is now screaming bound in a mental institution. First Night, Florida. The baby sitter, Kathy tells the kidsthat the person they think they saw in the window is just their imagination. She does hear something and wanders out to see if there is anything. And the intruder is on the roof. She screams, and next the police There is a scream and girl. First Night, New York. The dreamer dreams a man is being tied down during a sex act as a child watches, and then she is decapitated--the child hurries down the stairs. They are trying to discover the childhood trauma behind George's dreams. george thinks he is the child, but sometimes he is standing there with the hatchet. The doctor ends the session. Geroge is diagnosed with schizophrenia--mild amnisia, "dream fixation". arrested for sexual mutilation & murder of a brooklyn family. Epilectic episodes. Drugs (hypnotic) have modified behavior, he has been "programmed" for use in government and private sector. He is no longer deemed a dangerous psychotic. (A freed Tatum walks past a Richard Pryor movie and into a peep show parlor. he gawks from his booth. He tries another booth in which the woman talks over a phone. this is toomuch like the bondage beheading of his youth, and he succombs to an epileptic fit. Georgecalls a family, and a child answers. They are off to school while mother lounges in bed) and George hops in a car. Mother finally rolls out of bed and joins her pal on a boat. George makes his way toward them. Late at night, a female leaves a bar and heads home. She gets a call late at night, but there's George to cut her throat from behind. He then lovingly cuts her up some more. Third Day. The agency is a bit concerned. The doctor thinks there is no problem. He's wrong. While lazy mother lolls about with her pirate friends, the kids climb through the window and show up in time to take out the garbage. Mom calls as C.J. stumbles into the house with a knife in him and she rushes home only to find that C.J. was faking. Grounded. C.J.'s friend shows up with his "stuff". George makes still another sequence of calls that night--no answer--of course while mom is out and the kids are being taken care of by a baby sitter. George meanwhile takes the corpse of last night's activities. the babysitter is in the shower, she turns around and sees a monster with glowing eyes, but it's just an elaborate joke by C.J. She is thinking of selling the house and takes a sequence of photos. When she looks at the polaroid, there is a figure of a man in the window. She and her pirate friend look around, but find no one. George is hiding in the closetwith a knife. Later, they are at the beach, and C.J. sees George, who he had seen at the house. He comes screaming back, but no one will believe him. Karen gets a call in the middle of the night, and this time he talks, muttering about wanting her, and how she is sleeping in his bed. Fifth Day: George calls thedoctor. He tells him it's the pills that aremaking him do these things. He falls into an epileptic fit. Candy, the baby sitter is out for a jog, and sees C.J.'s bicycle. C.J. isn't in the shed she thinks she is, but George is, and next thing we know, she's had it. C.J.'s friend, Tony, looks for him there and finds Candy's body, and soon he finds George too. The cops ask C.J. what had happened, and start to ask him if he hurt Tony. George, meanwhile, is off somewhere fondling some underwear in mother's room while C.J. calls out to her, complaining about how all the kids think he killed Tony. (As usual, she's not home). George frops some meds, and C.J. happens to find them. George calls on the other extention, telling C.J. to leave the house--C.J. thinks it's a prank. The folks from the agency (Doctor Paul) have tracked George to this area when they realize his dream is based on what really happened. Mother's back home looking for C.J. Mother later has forgotten about the C.J. issue, and is hostessing a party at her place. The young babysitter sits at the TV as someone sneaks up, but it's just a boyfriend, Joey, and after the sexual situation, Joey crawls off for some marijuana. The fake C.J. mask set up is at it again, except this time it isn't C.J. The baby sitter, Kathy is multiply piked, and C.J. tries to warn his sister, but he has been playing wolf. Mother calls just then, and Georgepicks up the phone, not saying anything. Motherhangsup, baffled. George goes to ork on the door with his rock hammer. C.J., however, has gotten hold of a gun, and shoots George five times though the hole in the door. As they leave, George stirs once agin. He gets his mason's hammer and stumbles after them, and C.J. turns and pumps still another bullet into him. He is used to taking care of himself, so when he hears George still dragging about in the house, he returns to finish the job. C,J. pulls out a shot gun and does the job right with two blasts. Once again, George relives the dream of himself a child coming up the stairs and seeing his father straddled by a woman who has bound him and is enjoying slapping him. He retrieves an axe from the shed and returns to decapitate and further mutilate the woman. He then raises it and cleaves his father's head, ending by staring at his blood covered face in the mirror. In the last scene, we findthat George was mother's husband. In the very last scene, C.J. smiles and winks to the camera.
