Critique: Animal House minus good script plus Halloween minus good acting divided by negative John Landis and John Carpenter equals a Final Exam grade of 5 skulls. This Halloween rip off features dreadful dialog and a dumb bully for a monster. Where did the murderer come from? What are his motivations? We never find out. A spirited exchange between Gary the pledge, tied to a tree and covered with ice, and the security guard cum milkman Mitch is anomalous in this hopelessly acted effort. Things get awfully slow when these friends of the director get into extended conversations. What happened to the morale at Lanier college? The students can't stand English, they hate chemistry, and cheat at every opportunity. What's more, physical intimidation of the good students is commonplace. It's not surprising that the sheriff holds the place in such contempt that he isn't willing to respond to any distress calls. Not unlike the outbreak of world war one in Europe, the arrival of the mass murderer is practically greeted with cheers by the stultified student body. Could this be a clever allegory for pre-World War I Europe? Not likely. It's true that director Jimmy Huston bumbled in his efforts about as often as Kaiser Wilhelm did. However, the characters in world war one were interesting and their efforts resulted in a bloodbath. This just ended. Filmed at Isothermal Community College in Shelby North Carolina. Rah!
Plot Summary: March College, Midnight. The quarterback wants to make out but the girl says no. Finally, he agrees to put the top up , still she wants to go somewhere else. She hears something but he dismisses it until the car is bumped a head falls onto the windshield and as the screaming couple pulls out the knife-wielding killer cuts through the convertible top and carves on. Lanier College. Suzanne and x chat about boys At Lanier, the kids hate almost all academic subjects. If it weren't for their parents' threats of disconnection, school would serve no purpose. A nerd brings news of the murders and theorizes it could be the same campus killer who struck in Vermont. The entertaining chemistry professor kills the entire test period with his light-hearted ooze. Finally he leaves the students to their test while he takes his last chance at "Some firm young flesh". They agree to meet in her studio that night for an end of semester fuck. Nerd passes in his A and Wildman his F. Coach, who sucks, likes to keep the kids on their toes by tackling them when they least expect it. While the students write, a team of masked commandos arrive in a brown van and shoot some twenty students with M-16s. Those crazy Gammas! The local authorities are not amused by Gamma's raid. Gamma's leader was able to cheat on his chemistry test during the diversion. x, an asshole, abuses his pledges, hits on all the girls, and assigns pledge Gary the solemn duty to break into Dr. Mahern's office and steal the exam. Gary reluctantly agrees and breaks his date with Janet. Meanwhile, a black van is cruising the campus at an ominous pace. Wildman comes by and physically intimidates nerd over the license plate incident. When Gary purloins the exam, someone is watching. The hazing is complete when Gary is tied to a tree and covered with ice water. Gary, now resembling St. Sebastian, is finally discovered by Mitch the security guard--who believes in tradition and therefore doesn't help him--Janet must do it. Janet takes her time saving Gary. Gary is freed, but not by Janet. She comes by and is baffled to find only his clothes leading her to one of the empty buildings. This may be unhealthy for her. The Gamma boys are meanwhile contriving to get back at Ravitch the nerd by pinning the theft of pain killers on him. This backfires on Wildman. A score of "guest one, home zero" is displayed on the scoreboard. Raditch explains to X that there are psychos everywhere and gets her to lock her door. Raditch goes to clean up the gym and finds a body--the sheriff is not impressed with the call--Raditch being a wolf-crier in his eyes. Homely girl finds Raditch displayed in a doorway and the chase is on. Can the coach and his long bow have any effect on the burly monster? X gets scared when "An Introduction to abnormal psychology" falls on her. Not surprising in this college.
