Critique: A Boa in the dessert? Swedish Quakers in Arizona? A snake hand? Jamie Farr is good as the traveling salesman effective in the dramatic and lighter moments although the cameo nature of his part makes us wonder why anyone would care about his fear of failure at the end. Despite Farr's performance, and the always welcome Jill Schoellen, as well as a strong supporting cast, this film bites itself in the hand again and again. The makers require that the viewer not only suspend disbelief but reject logic and all knowledge of the world for the sake of some otherwise very good special effects. This movie proves to what extent effects are only garnishes for something hopefully more substantial and that effects should be anchored in the reality of the picture. Watching this movie made us feel like we were the only people on earth. The isolated good special effects by Screaming Mad George are wasted and impossibly out of context. Why would Clark's mutation cause him to go around puking all different sizes and breeds of snakes?(as nice as this scene is) Scientists and philosophers will long puzzle over this and other questions thrown up in "The Curse II". One thing's for gory well sure, it's a curse all right.
Plot Summary: Yellow Sands Nuclear Base in Arizona crews in protective suits use clamors to pick up the abundant rattle snakes and store them in cans. A gas station attendant advises x and x to tale the highway to Albuquerque instead of the shorter route through Yellow Sands but the happy teens naturally opt for the isolated dessert route where they quickly get a flat tire. As x changes the tire in the midst of a wriggling dessert X relates her dream of being chased by dinosaurs in a defoliated forest wondering where x is. x shoots one close to x and during the commotion a snake crawls into the Jeep. At the first available gas station they are greeted by the owner with a shotgun who charges them $200 to fix the flat. He explains that underground nuclear testing is destroying heaven and earth. The strong who survive, he vows, he will kill himself. The snakes got his beautiful dog but x hears the dog in the cellar an investigates. The gas man chases him out with a shotgun before he sees the supposedly deceased dog, which turns out to be a hideous gigantic mutant snake which kills its owner as x leaves. Upon arrival at the hotel, x is bitten by the stowaway Chicken snake as he attempts to remove his pet birds from the back of the Jeep. Georgie, the hotel clerk, and Harry Morton, the salesman/healer help the kids with a room and antidote,. Unfortunately, the hotel room has a snake in it too which x s,ashes with her guitar. As the couple eats The salesman says its a bushmaster and belongs in tropical climes. Harry shows concern that the antidote he gave may not be appropriate for this kind of snake or any possible mutants. Dispensing medicine without a license can result in charges of manslaughter his lawyer advises him. Harry networks with his CB buddies to try to locate the kids in the silver Jeep before tips over. x has a headache when they pull in at a cowboy bar where everyone ogles x. She dances with a cowboy while x sits miserable and drinks beer and eats a fly as his problems compound. When Lisa returns from dancing he wheels and bashes her in the face before running to the guys' room to vomit with the rugged cowboy dancer right behind him. "City boy answers the challenge by busting the cowboy's arm. Clark, as sorry as he looks, is getting stronger but Lisa is calling their relationship off. Harry continues his desperate search for the kids, just missing them at the cowboy hotel. As they drive the couple reconciles and stops to have sex although Clark isn't saying much. After a nap in the Jeep, Lisa notices that the birds are gone. Clark claims he let them go but the back is full of slime. As Lisa demands he stop the car, the police try to pull them over. Clark's backtalk doesn't impress the Sheriff who only wanted to see why his hand is bandaged and has him open the back of the Jeep. A loaded rifle is just what the Sheriff hoped to find and Clark is cuffed and on his way to prison when he shows what looks like symptoms of withdrawal. The idiot Deputy uncuffs Clark while the Sheriff relieves himself and Clark stuffs his arm down the deputy's throat then gonks the Sheriff and stumbles back to the Jeep. Harry is notified that the jeep was seen heading for the hospital in Winslow where Clark is being treated. As Dr. Martyr cuts the gauze off his hand to find that the immune system's T-cells have been invaded by the neurotoxins of the venom replacing the genetic code of the patient and mutating the structure of his arm. Snake DNA is self-replicating in his arm. When the doctor draws blood from Clark, the snake/arm lunges into her mouth. Harry arrives to administer the proper antidote, and have Clark sign a liability release form when he stumbles onto the murdered doctor. Clark heads for a garage where he steals an axe in an attempt to cut off his snaky hand but the struggling hand has a mouth eyes and a will of its own. Finally, Clark overcomes the arm and chops it off leaving the giant snake-head in the sink. A Swedish Quaker helps him escape and Lisa hunts them down and the police get word of their location. As they approach the little daughter takes her plastic sword and knocks Clark's bandage off revealing a new spitting snake with about ten feet of powerful prehensile tongue. Clark continues to evolve, his eyes pop out his tongue falls off and he vomits a sack of wriggling baby snakes as the final showdown slowly wriggles itself appropriately into a muddy pit of snakes in which Harry the salesman must confront his worst fear of failure.
