Critique: Professional sound track, nods to Richard Band. Generally good production values. About twenty minutes into the movie we've about had it with these mean spirited people, concerned only with getting their hands on the inheritance money. You've got to be pretty nervous whenever a drink is poured. It's tough to sustain much in the way of pace when one doesn't much care about the characters, and the pace is slow. Some very impressive camera work. At one point the light of a meat cleaver reflects off the threatened woman.
Plot Summary: Charles' mind is sharp as a knife, but it seems his body has failed him. A young couple arrive at the husband's childhood mansion. She is quite impressed. As they make their way to the bedroom, juxtaposed is brain surgery performed by Andreas Wells in an operation theatre. The young man finds a photograph of his now dead mother and becomes pensive, looking over some of the objects from his childhood bedroom. Thomas calls his father (the great Andreas Wells) and his young wife Marie listens on another line. Thomas seems disturbed about mother. The father asks Thomas if he has been keeping up with his medication. It appears there are things about Thomas that she doesn't know. When father arrives it looks as though things have gotten out of hand as X is weeping outside the bathroom where Thomas is floating in blood. When father sees it's a prank this starts heart palpitations. Not quite hard enough, though, as he survives it. He's not impressed with his first meeting of Marie. We get The information that Thomas' mother was paralyzed for two years from a car accident in which Andreas was driving. Thomas feels it was no accident, mother having been quite rich. Not a particularly pleasant family reunion. Marie suggests that they could use Andreas' attraction to her to give another shot at giving the old man a heart attack. When they see Andreas with Sharon and then later out jogging they begin to doubt their plans will bear fruit. The games continue as Marie opens a closet on a hanged cat. Andreas is sure that Thomas set up the cat to set off Andreas' heart. Andreas sniffs around Marie, and appears to have put something in her tea. That night comes around to consummate their chat. When she wakes up, she's not sure whether Andreas had come to her at night or not. Marie meets grandpa Charles, trying to impress him as being heritable. Like both Andreas and Thomas, Charles finds her familiar. Charles is pretty feisty. He suggest Marie take off her clothes for him. Later she is drugged by Andreas again. She awakes to someone screaming. Following the sound down some darkened hallways, she sees Andreas performing brain surgery on a shaved headed Sharon. Yuri the servant comes around and asks her some questions in her drugged sleep. Marie thinks things are getting out of hand. Jack, Andreas' lawyer, comes by and says he's involved with Thomas in bumping off Andreas. He says Thomas will pin the murder on Marie. Jack suggests to Marie that they bump off Andreas and Thomas. They head down to the lab but things don't turn out the way Jack planned. Andreas is very pleased about the way things turned out and starts playing the organ a la Dr. Phibes. It appears that mother isn't completely out of the picture, and Charles might have more of a future than he thought. Marie runs to Yuri for help, and he gives her a drink while they wait for the police.
