Critique: With fine acting, above average production values, and great theme music by Harry Manfredini, "Cameron's Closet" is off to a great start. Although the story meanders a bit, reminiscent of Salem's Lot before the showdown, there are enough scary moments to keep you hooked until the end, which is worth the wait. Scary Bob, chilling, dead Pete and scary visions, this movie has a great hook in the repeating of the demon's hideous versions of the original character constellations; the scary dead people are really scary. The monster too is good for a chill, if it is a bit spotty and at times a bit plastic, it is also at times horrifying. The special effects in the showdown in the closet are superior, as we have come to expect from Carlo Rambaldi of "Alien" and "E.T." fame.

Plot Summary: At 9:00am on the 14th day of research, 10 year old Cameron Lancing, his father, and his Doctor are engaging in an experiment to test his Telekinetic abilities, first noticed when he was playing with his toys at age seven. Cameron can move marbles, read the backs of cards and make coffee cups fly in circles. Back at home, Cameron sits in his closet and plays with Champion and Deceptor, the Prince of Evil, while his father reads up on the occult. When his father hears a demonic voice he hurries up the stairs and tells Cameron these games have gone too far "I've taught you too much!". He hypnotizes Cameron, puts him to sleep and begs for God's forgiveness. He then pulls out a machete and tries to call Dr.Ben, who refuses to answer the phone, and leaves a message to destroy the tapes. He intends to end it- "The evil is here!" While Mr. Lansing destroys the toys in Cameron's room, he hears a sound in the attic and climbs up. The door to Cameron's room closes, a light electrocutes Owen, and he falls on his own machete and is beheaded. Det. Tailaferro. One of the two detectives has a vision of a gull flying, the same vision from Cameron's hypnotic trance, when he is aroused by his suspect fleeing. He gives chase into a a warehouse - poof it was all a vision. The suspect meanwhile escapes. Det. Tailaferro is ordered to see the police psychologist. Cameron moves in with his mother and her unfriendly boyfriend, Bob, who blasts Cameron for a scratch on his Cadillac and childishly tips over his army men. He physically threatens Cameron when the boy insists his mother would never marry him. At least his room has a big closet. The Detective reluctantly visits the attractive psychologist for his "absentmindedness on the job" and bad dreams in which he chases the same suspect. Bob is regrettably a lousy actor who can't remember his lines as Marc Anthony. When he throws Cameron out of his "rehearsal" downstairs for justifiable snickering, the boy returns to his room where demonic sounds emanate from the closet bringing Bob up for an angry talk about the kind of people who talk to themselves. Despite Cameron's warnings, Bob looks in the closet, his eyes are burned out by the sight of the demon and he is blown out the window onto his precious Cadillac. The distance from the window and the damage to the car prompt the Det. to ask "What the hell happened? He fall out of an airplane?" Cameron's Uncle Allen The doctor examines Cam. Cameron senses something about Det. Tailaferro, who also notices the seagull on the wall in Cameron's room. Dr. Haley arrives to the chagrin of the Det., who breaks off his interrogation to search the closet where he finds Cameron's Deceptor doll and has a vision of Cameron walking down a long hall. Dr. Haley has a vision of a vase almost falling then going back in place. On his way home, the Det. hears Cameron calling him and runs into the same warehouse where he shoots the same suspect. The phone awakens him and the Captain calls him in. Dr. Haley asks Cameron about the vase and he cuts her off announcing that Det. Sam is coming. "I just know things." With two brutal accidental deaths in two months, and a psychic kid involved, Sam decides to bond with Cameron. Cameron can see what's coming and is comforted when Sam tells him he's tougher than the cops on tv. Sam leaves Cameron and heads to Dr. Haley's. That night Cameron tries to throw out the closet case, which cleans the ceiling with him and threatens to chop him up with the ceiling fan, until Cameron wills it to stop. Det. Partner Pete stops in to check the closet and is killed by a smiling eyeless demon Bob. Cameron's mother discloses the location of the research results of Cameron's father and his partner Ben Majors, who didn't want them. Drunk Ben Majors tells them it's too late, Owen's goal was to open up the unused potential of the mind for which a child was necessary. Behind Ben's house, Sam's dead partner demon Pete calls him into the woods telling him, "It was in the closet but now its out here--it's after you." Sam chases him wildly through the woods until scary Pete shows him what's in the closet. He collapses into the arms of Dr. Haley. At the same time scary Owen shows up in Ben's cabin and orders him to kill the boy. Dr. Haley puts Sam in her bed and watches the tape which shows the moment at which Cameron got the creepy doll which she just found in Sam's pocket. In her demonology guide, she finds a picture and description of the demon, the essence of evil, Zaltan (Mayan), which can only be summoned by a child. The demon dwells in a chosen place until its power surpasses the will of the child. Back at Cameron's house, the demon appears to Uncle Allen as his naked sister who seduces him and bashes his brains out in the shower. When Cameron runs for help he is abducted by Professor Majors. Sam's next dream features scary Cameron strangling him, and Dr. Haley insisting Sam kill him. The demon can have an agent kill Cameron or can have Cameron come willingly to the dwelling. Prof. Majors hypnotizes Cameron and convinces him to destroy the demon. The demon cooked Prof Majors just as Sam and Haley arrive to find the boy in an hypnotic trance being called further and father by his scary father. With Sam in the closet chased by the demon, it's up to Dr. Haley to get Cameron to will the demon back to hell.
