Critique: Poor Tulsa! and heaven help the video stores. This is a cheap movie. Narrated by the cheap detective, which gives the film a "Nightstalker" quality it couldn't otherwise hope to achieve, "Blood Cult" is a film school project with all the trimmings; bad acting, poor film quality, hideous everything, folks, they don't even speak proper English--yadda, yadda, yadda. Perhaps an unfair example regarding the props can illuminate the economic troubles of the movie: the door(s) in the opening bathroom murder scene. The door the killer cut through, freshly painted particle board with a vanier, is not the door to the bathroom in which the killing occurs (the landlord obviously didn't allow the filmmakers to break the antique-white hardwood door originally shown). A realistically depressing portrayal of a university cafeteria with human fingers in the salad and a dead person in the dumpster sparked our brief interest. Yet, would that scare real college students? The subplot of the threatening red herring boyfriend (Joel), forcing himself between the father and the daughter is stultifyingly boring as are the rest of the formulaic horror gestures. Is Joel in on the evil doings? Is everyone? Following the formula of showing the killer as little as possible makes us forget him rather wonder about him. And the cult god "Caninus"? Assininus would have been more appropriate. The acting sucks. Bad enough to be a classic? Not quite. "Blood Cult" lacks the requisite pretentiousness to be bad. This belongs to the so bad its funny group, and for connoisseurs can be entertaining, however, can't hold a candle to "Boggy Creek 2", "Zombies' Lake", or "Blackenstein", which were all much more expensive, and thus perhaps that much more hilarious in their witless failure. To that end, Blood Cult can't even be rightfully called a failure. The team's muddled vision would appear to have been fulfilled. Dreadful.
Plot Summary: November 1985, A strange series of murders at a Midwestern college (TU) begins on a Monday: Tammy of Central State University's Chi Omega Sorority goes for pizza while her not long for this world friend takes a shower. calls Tammy and. On late Wednesday night at Tri Delta Sorority another victim is gonked to death with another person's head. The killer dismembers each body and leaves a golden amulet. Soon, the Sheriff realizes that the coroner is making inexplicable mistakes. the detective is running for senator. pieces of evidence are touched or completely missing. That coroner through research the librarian daughter of the sheriff finds out that a dog centered sect reacting to the Salem witch trials in existence since approximately 1700 that uses this symbol sacrifices a mannequin constructed of body parts of those who had offended them as retribution for the killing of witches the sacrifice was always through fire and the m. was died red by ocher to facilitate the demonic powers the sacrifices were meant to doom designated magistration officials in wooded areas. Son of a bitch! Daddy suspects a serial killer 1. overbudgeted and understaffed? Hello? Anybody? This is not a good movie. The sheriff is threatened by the dean, his leading contributor, and hex stakes his reputation on stopping the killings. the boring killer gets another girl, and a dog. Gee. The Sheriff's conflict of interest in an election year is almost as interesting. Blah blah blah showdown in the woods. Who cares? The god worshiped by the cult is Caninus, the doghead, who commands death and loyalty and resurrection. Doc and daughter and everyone is in on it! blah blah blah! Or was it all a dream? blah blah blah. Surprise ending blah blah blah arrgghhhhhh!
