Critique: Now why was this little gem made? The only reason would be to frustrate an audience as the actors go through their largely incomprehensible motions. The let downs in this film come fast and furious. Why Cooper would go and bury the body at the end is absolutely incomprehensible. And what happened to his girl friend? Grainy and cheap. The background music is a period piece jazz and violin background that adds to the cheapness of the film. The acting is commensurate to the value of the film. Very slow to get going as the discussion of how bad Larry is drags on forever. The disco ball in the bedroom is a scream. All this over abortions? What happened to Cheryl and Larry? They seemed to have been lost in the editing shuffle. Enjoy.
Plot Summary: Dr. Waterman, the owner of an important clinic is suffering from a weak heart. He buzzes petulantly and his beautiful artist daughter Victoria finally brings him some breakfast. He is bitter and suspicious, feeling that Victoria would just as soon have him dead. Meanwhile Larry calls Dr. Craig Cooper and says he wants more money, threatening to go to the police. Cooper gives in and decides to give him a couple of hundred. The extortionist's plain girlfriend Millie works for Dr. Waterman and for Cooper. Millie's sister Allison arrives and they chat interminably about Larry and why she stays with him. Allison says Larry will leave her in the end. They end in a rousing chorus of for he's a jolly good fellow. The jazz progressions start up again as Cooper shows up to talk to check out daddy who owns the clinic. The apparently unstable Vicki throws herself at Cooper but he rejects her. Larry shows up at Cooper's place. Cheryl is sent away as the extortion continues. He demands fifty thousand in two weeks. He knows about Mrs. Bartlett's case, Larry introduced him to her and took photographs. Larry notes he could get immunity if he gave up Cooper. Doc had done abortions in med school. It could cost him his license. Cooper called the old man to get more money, ostensively for a new wing. Dr. Waterman (the old man) has been hitting the booze against Dr. Cooper's orders. Vicky has done a painting and Cooper is quite impressed. Vicky says that if Cooper needs some money she can get some. He puts her off. Victoria finally gets Cooper into bed. She apparently sniffs amal nitrate. He notes that if one has a heart a condition it can kill. Cooper admits he needs fifty thousand dollars. Vicky admits she doesn't have it but she knows how to get it. Millie listens from outside the room and calls Larry to give the good news. Cheryl comes to talk to Larry. Victoria sneaks into her father's room and gives the amal nitrate treatment. Waterman sits up fakely, indicating a heart attack. Victoria admits that she killed him to Cooper. This is not a reasoned act on her part. She seems to have miscalculated if she thought Cooper would be pleased about that. He is tempted to call the police but decides the fifty thousand sounds too good. Millie suspects Victoria killed him. she heard her come out of Waterman's room. Millie liked Waterman. The will specifies that the estranged younger sister, Gail, be present at the reading of the will. The coroner performed an autopsy and became suspicious. At the reading, Gail gets the money and all Victoria gets is the house. Clearly she's disappointed. She is put under sedation and Millie watches over her. Cooper insists that the door be locked. Miss Lucas, Gail's lesbian lover, is suspicious and also fears that Victoria might attack Gail. Cooper decides to move in on Gail and invites her to come along on some house calls with him. At the medieval fair things go pretty well, vasoline-lensed beach scenes and all. Pretty soon they're frolicking on the beach and it looks like Cooper's got her and that all those scruples he had earlier are down the drain. When Victoria hears Gail and Craig frolicking down in the swimming pool she is not pleased. Soon the painting is going red. Lucas gives up and leaves. Apparently Lesbians just give up in such situations. Gail goes and offers Victoria the money. Apparently Gail offered Cooper the doe but implausibly he turned it down. After this chat Gail leaves but leaves the door unlocked at Victoria's request. Soon Gail gets the hack job. Victoria reports to Craig that Gail's gone to New York. He doesn't believe and heads over Craig hurries over and finds his way into the house. He finds Victoria painting bloody landscapes. Victoria tells Craig to look for Gail himself. He finds her dead in the bathroom as Victoria continues calmly painting. Craig carries her body into his car, bringing a shovel with him rather than calling the police. He brings her out into the country and buries her there, then goes back to Victoria and finds Larry there smiling at him.
