Critique: The sassy Gail is just too much to take with her groovy language, man - it's another wierd translation job from Italy! Regarding Robert: modern people may be interested to know that in the seventies some women dated and married men with tight curls and moustaches. There is some interest in seeing how the big secret of Dimitri's allegiances will turn out. It was fairly interesting to see the devil taunting Dimitri, goading him into giving in to his designs. However, this is just a slap-it-together rip off of Rosemary's baby and the exorcist. What they got from the exorcist was that if you make someone's head spin around and vomit green slime and have that special corroded look, it'll be scary. That's really not the whole story. The trick is, one has to have some interest in the puker or pukee for this to make a difference. Still, there are some visually interesting moments, as the exorcist stuff is a good gag. A decidedly slow pace if progression of plot is your gauge. If seeing spinach spewed is your thing, this movie will have some redeeming elements. Director Ovidio Assonitis (Oliver Hellman) is surprisingly incoherent, although, "Tentacles" isn't a favorite of ours, "Madhouse" is good for a chill.
Plot Summary: The Devil addresses the audience before the film begins. Dimitri has a pact with the devil. why did you let her get away. The devil asks how much longer do you want your miserable life to last. Only a few more days. If you rip the child from the womb of this woman, he may live a few more years. Jessica and Robert Barrett. They have two sassy kids and another on the way. Robert doesn't understand how she could be pregnant while regularly taking the pill and doesn't seem too thrilled. Jessica is puking blood at the birthday party. Jessica feels as if the baby is trying to kill her. "I don't want to have this baby." A bad man appears Dimitri in the mirror. George the doctor and family friend Jessica is three months pregnant although she menstruated seven weeks ago. While flipping through family photos, she discovers a photo of her and Dimitri smiling. She's never met Dimitri. In frustration, she throws an ashtray at the fish tank wiping out Robert's fledgling Goldfish colony. She admits that it was no accident. There seems to be a presence looking down on the sleeping family. Jessica rises from her bed and in a trance floats across the room as the boy watches from the shadows. Jessica comes in from outside to a worried Robert. Only when shaken does she come back to normal. The next day, Robert speaks to the doctor. He finds Jessica's condition very strange, a biological absurdity. The development of the fetus is progressing at an accelerated rate. It is hypothesized that her psychological state is affecting the fetus. Dimitri is watching the interview from a table nearby. Jessica feels something is taking over her mind. one of the children wakes crying with a high fever and a strange bruise. Jessica's acting up: she slaps the kid for no reason She's sick of her lies. Jessica wants an abortion and the doctor agrees that it might be the right thing to do should the pregnancy affect her mental health or health. Jessica walks around in a daze, eats a rotten banana peel she finds on a stair. She's a mess. Ken Schmuckhead now has a malevolent invisible friend who sits in the rocking chair breathing and moving toys. Gail=daughter. Invisible friend makes the dolls walk and their eyes glow while it laughs during a house scene. Mommy does an exorcist head turn when Gail runs to her for help. The marriage becomes strained. Children get tired "from driving me crazy." She's been sleeping a lot. Some pretty depressive characteristics. The daughter sums it up by asking daddy not to leave Ken and her alone with mommy. Out on a stroll Robert sees Dimitri glaring at him. As Robert is about to be run down by a Ryder rent a truck, Dimitri, who has been following him, pulls him to safety. To Robert's surprise, he knows all about Jessica. Robert rejects his offer of help. Dimitri insists that the child must be born. Jessica, meanwhile produces a good eye-spin. Later she starts doing some exorcist style possession schtick. They trot out spinach puree. It looks like the kids are being packed off. George the doctor suggests that she go to a hospital. She had called out for Dimitri while possessed. Robert notes that he's the man she loved before she met him. Robert is convinced that the man he met was Dimitri. Dimitri then shows up and insists again that the child must be born. He says she's called him to this house to save her child. Dimitri's ten years are not up he claims he obeyed the voice's orders. Dimitri doesn't want to die. In Jessica's room we have exorcist sounds hand. Is Dimitri really interested in Jessica's good, or is she keeping her from going to the hospital because he wants the baby to die? Dimitri claims that the child will be a spirit that had lived before. There are still scientific tests done on the possessed Jessica. Jessica claims that Dimitri is tricking them and that Dimitri doesn't even exist. She says he wants to steal the baby. They try a few really boring stop frame effects showing the possessed Jessica in scary poses. Jessica tries to coerce Robert to untie her, using her own voice instead of the possessed voice. However, once freed she throws him to the ground and starts oozing again. Soon Robert's doing a wall crawl to a spinning Jessica. George goes and asks questions about Dimitri. A woman says he helped sick people who doctors couldn't. She says he died years ago. She believes that Dimitri is capable of coming back to the present after death. The possessor tries to get Dimitri to pluck the child from the "guts of this whore". Possessed Jessica floats in the air before Dimitri. It claims that if the child is born, he will live as the child. It says "plunge your hands into her.' But then it's a trick. Then Dimitri bludgeons the pregnant body with his fists, and then he dies at her bedside. George returns to find the child born dead and mouthless. In the last scene we find Jessica looking rather pale but unpossessed. But watch out for the surprise ending, you might get bored to death.
